Vegan sushi

Fully vegan sushi experience. We enjoyed it and would recommend it. If you're a sushi buff you may be disappointed in the flavors and textures of the roll. A bit pricey, but interesting foods and cocktails.

Exceptional Sushi | Ok Atmosphere/Service

It’s hard to go wrong with sushi at Tane but our last couple of experiences have been less than ideal. We made a 9pm reservation and the restaurant was near empty but they sat us directly next to another table and we could hear them better than our own conversation. The seating against the straw/mud wall is super cramped and I dread the spot. It’s even worse when the ENTIRE ROW is empty and you’re still stuck listening to the people next to you. They had a bunch of gnats and we spent the evening swatting away at bugs landing on our food. We like to pay for atmosphere as much as for food and that’s hard to enjoy with some of their seating and a lack of time between appetizers and the main course. While their speed is impressive, our last few visits have felt more like a conveyer belt of food rather than a curated fine-dining experience.

Tane used to be my favorite restaurant, but their watered down cocktails, rushed service, and roulette style seating experience has made it less-than-ideal for the money we have to spend on babysitting.

Fancy

Expensive but worth every penny. The specialty rolls here are visually stunning and delicious. Like an explosion of flavor in your mouth. We ordered take-out but probably better for dine in, so you can fully enjoy the decor and presentation.

Vegan Japanese Heaven

I have been missing a place like this in my life.
I grew up in California and used to get Japanese food regularly. But when I became a vegan and moved all over the country I have had a hard time finding really good vegan versions of Japanese food. Usually I can get an avocado roll somewhere but that's about it.

I found this place on Happy Cow and I was thrilled to try everything while visiting Hawaii for work.
The restaurant is really elegant and would be a great place for a date night.

I started with miso soup and was impressed with the flavor. I love miso soup and it has been hard to find vegan versions anywhere because it usually has fish in the broth. This tasted exactly how miso soup should be without the dead fish.

I also got a Tomato Nigiri that had a texture similar to tuna, but tasted a bit like I was eating salad. It was very refreshing and fresh as well.

I also got two specialty rolls. The first one was Paradise Cove and that was my favorite. I believe it was topped with Mango, but the texture and flavor of that also reminded me of how raw fish feels when it is layered on top of a roll. The basil sauce was phenomenal. I don't think the sauce looks very pretty on the roll, but it tasted incredible. I enjoyed every bite of that and would definitely get it again.

The last specialty roll I had was the Mahaka. It was a fried roll and it was very dense. The flavor was good, but the fried part took the stage. It feels very heavy and filling to eat. I almost didn't finish it because I was so full from the soup and other roll. It was very good, but I will try a different roll next time.

This is a nice upscale restaurant, but you can dress casually to eat here. It would be perfect for a friend get-together or a date night. I will definitely come back on another visit to Hawaii.

Pros: Lots of options , Fresh vegetables , Great flavors

Tane Vegan Honolulu is a must visit for vegans

We loved the decor, the service, and everything we tried at Tane was top notch! Our favorite starter was the Shizen Shitake, but the presentation of the Crispu Cauli Bites was so lovely with our sauces presented as a ying yang. So much attention to detail! Favorite rolls included the wedge and the Monterey. Definitely try it if you’re vegan in Honolulu!

AMAZING experience

The experience here was amazing. Service was on point, paid attention to detail, staff were so kind, despite it being fairly busy! And the food was top tier. I love sushi but feel like I haven’t been able to fully enjoy the experience since being vegan like I used to, but this all hit the spot and felt like I could really enjoy it all. The cheesecake after it all topped it off, so flavorful and not too heavy!

Pros: Service, Ambience , So many choices

Easy 5 stars and a must visit when in HNL

Tane and its counterpart, Shizen in SF, are hands down, the best vegan sushi in the US. Service is top notch. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They do a great job creating a wonderful dining experience. This is shown in how they design the space through the use of natural materials and lighting. There’s such great care taken and it really follows through. Easy 5 stars. ⭐️

So rude without any explanation

I came to order takeaway, the girl at reception gave me a menu and suggested I sit on a bench near the door, I took the menu and sat down. She asked me if everything was okay. I said that I was not comfortable sitting by the door and I would be more comfortable sitting at a table and waiting for my food to cook. But if that's not allowed, I'll sit here. I was then told to get out of the restaurant and that they would not serve me. I asked for the manager, she said she was the manager. That she was going to call the police if I didn't leave. I just wanted to eat. And I was insulted and brought to tears. I feel really bad.

Amazing

I’ve had a lot of vegan sushi- this is the best of anywhere I’ve been. Had the Brussels sprouts, futo maki, Leahi roll, and another roll that we liked the best but can’t remember the name of lol. Our server, Anna was amazing!

Pros: Friendly service, Amazing sushi, Parking

New Items on the menu

Whenever we visit family here in Honolulu, we always come here - we even took our non vegan relatives here for dinner. Our server suggested to try “Negima” (grilled marinated “chicken” skewers) and the Monterey, one of the specialty rolls. We ordered these and the Sunrise. Everything was great as was the service.

So delightful

I got sushi to go from Tane Vegan Izakaya before flying home on a red-eye. It was so delicious, inventive, and perfect. I love that they have gluten free versions of sushi ingredients I can’t usually eat like tempura sweet potato. This was my favorite meal while visiting Honolulu; my only regret is waiting so long to go!

Pros: Friendly folks, Clear labels

Excellent Japanese vegan

I’ve been to the Berkeley and Honolulu locations and all the food so far has been great. Loved the Manila Dune and Pt Reyes rolls. Tonight tried the more expensive chefs nigari and that was good but not great.

Pros: Rolls overall are diverse and so excellent , Decor is beautiful , Waitstaff friendly

Gluten-free and Mind Blown!

Sooo happy right now. Most of the menu is GF as well as being 100% vegan. The flavours were fantastic. Don’t go past the garlic oil soy reduction edamame! We also enjoyed agedashi tofu (less broth; don’t order rice), vegetable tempura (so excited for GF!), pickled mango and citrus crema nigiri, and some avocado rolls.

The shiitake tempura was super yum and a plate of just that can be ordered also.

Only one dessert was on offer and it contained gluten. The waiter said that people ask a lot about whether it has gluten, so maybe that’s an indicator..?!

Good service, cool vibe. Very happy tummy.

Amazing All Vegan sushi and Asian fusion

We went to Tane Vegan tonight for dinner close to Waikīkī (free parking in lot).
We had nice friendly service but the food!! Wow!..the food was magic for the mouth! So many wonderful flavors! We had vegan bao ,crispy Brussels sprouts with dragon sauce and a few of their delicious sushi rolls to share. Prices were just right… not too expensive we felt it was very fair for the quality of food we ate. We will be back next time we are in Honolulu..

Pros: Brussels sprouts, vegan Bao, Sushi

Cons: Area isn’t the prettiest but inside is super cute

Great food, definitely coming back!

Even though we're here for just a week, I hope we get to come back for the ramen and non-sushi dishes. They have a wise variety of nigiri, maki, and rolls. We especially enjoyed the "Kailua" mango-tomato roll with shiitake, with a nice smokey twist. Not too crazy about the matcha beer and the "Barbers" roll because the beets just dominate everything, but the rest was fine. Look at their website before you go, they have a gorgeous illustrated menu that is not available at the restaurant.

Pros: Many creative options, Delicious

Cons: A bit pricey

Reviews are high for a reason!

I ordered takeaway right as the doors opened. The hostess was so nice and my order was completed incredibly quickly.

I had the Shizen Shittake mushrooms, Pokai roll, and Kailua roll. The rolls were fantastic but the mushrooms? WHAT?! I wish I would have ordered more! I couldn’t stop audibly “mmmm”ing after ever bite! I had never had a tofu stuffed mushroom but I am for sure going to try and make them at home, now!

The rolls were super fresh, flavorful, and absolutely beautiful. The sauces was delish! While they were both delicious, if I had to choose, I think I like the Pokai the best.

Definitely don’t skip out on this restaurant. I can only imagine everything on the menu is just as tasty!

Absolutely perfect vegan sushi

This is the spot to go if you’re looking for plant-based sushi on the island! And it’s not just veggies wrapped up in a roll, they carefully craft their ingredients to create sushi that is original and so delicious you’ll wanna keep coming back. 🤍
I always get the wedge because it’s extremely flavorful and has a delightful crunch. I believe it’s one of their best sellers 🔥 all the rolls are out of this world though and even the ramen was impressive!
It’s verrrrry expensive but totally worth it for a date night or dinner with a group. 5/5 ⭐️ for sure

Pros: Every roll is fire, Ramen is amazing, Friendly and super helpful staff

Cons: Expensive af (but hey lol) , Literally nothing else ☺️

Sushi

I agree that the sushi is the star here. Ordered the wedge and Pacifica specialty rolls, garlic miso ramen, edamame, and gyozas. The wedge roll was the best thing, in my option. Next I would say the ramen. All in all, definitely a nice sushi spot. My next visit I will focus on the sushi. I would recommend to make a reservation as well if you want a table and are opposed to bar seating.

Love an all vegan sushi spot 🤌🏼

Everything we ordered was pretty good, esp the shizen shiitake and the wedge roll. Price makes sense for Hawaii and the restaurant’s atmosphere. Service was great too.
