Great early breakfast! - Edit
For the city that never sleeps, there were not many breakfast options at 8am! The menu was a little confusing about what could be made vegan, but I ordered the bagel and lox and WOW!!! I’m not a huge carrot lox person, but with the tomatoes, this was perfect! Just be forewarned - it was messy to eat! Too tall to eat with your hands, and too chewy to effectively cut with a butter knife. It was 100% worth the mess, though. Very cute spot with good, quick service and reasonable prices.

Wonderful and cozy sidewalk restaurant - Edit
The menu has so many delicious options that it's hard to choose. The staff is super friendly and the setting us wonderful with small café tables in the sun at the sidewalk. West went there for lunch on a Sunny October day.

A few vegan options for a quick nosh - Edit
Staff was awesome, atmosphere was cute and bright. Beet waffles were good, but the house maple butter effing *made* it--could eat that shizz all day! 😋 Also got the fanciest avocado toast ever made; flavors were fantastic and they took pains to make it the prettiest food of your day. Overall a great little spot to tide ya over till your next destination. (Note: Visited May '24, so menu items might've changed.)

Decent vegan bakery - Edit
Cute little shop with cute sitting areas. The pastry was pretty good. The drink tasted a little off. My biggest issue is the staff wasn’t the nicest.

Seasonal and delish - Edit
I’ve been to this spot twice and love the changing menu. Ingredients are fresh, flavors are unique and beautifully presented. This time we tried the poppyseed waffles, pastrami tofu sandwich, and the mushroom calamari. All very tasty.

Good but not amazing—it all depends on what you order - Edit
Visually, this first outpost of the Butcher’s Daughter is beautiful, which makes sense since the owner is a designer. It’s a tiny space used well, and be prepared to sit at the window counter or a communal table if eating inside—definitely make a reservation if you can. But who cares about stuff like that—it’s all about the food, right?
Read moreSo, the food. It’s spotty. Some items are excellent while others are meh at best.
The excellent:
The menu changes regularly, but if the gnocchi is available when you go, get that. The gnocchi themselves aren’t particularly flavorful, but they are properly cooked, which is no mean feat. The sauce is excellent, with sliced peppers for a bit of a kick and crumbled Impossible sausage. This was the standout dish for us.
Also great was the carrot hummus, and particularly the toast that came with it. They’ll bring you more if you ask for it. Ask for it.
They have a nice selection of cocktails. Truly delicious was the spicy margarita. The sangria smelled exactly (and tasted mostly) like a watermelon Jolly Rancher, so if that’s your thing…. Unfortunately, no interesting (or dark) beer.
The meh:
The salads we tried were just OK, and the pizza was pretty much inedible.
Your experience will depend entirely upon ordering the right items, so come with a large enough group to sample several.
Final thoughts: Boo to the vegan tax! A “plant-based” restaurant shouldn’t charge more to veganize stuff that it doesn’t cost more to veganize. It’s a shame they are not fully vegan, actually, as they are pretty close.
Pros: Some items are great, Nice selection of cocktails , Cool design and great service
Cons: The menu is not consistent , There’s a vegan tax, Too expensive for what it is

Charming vegetarian cafe - Edit
This pleasant, waiter-service cafe with a bunch of outdoor seating (and more limited indoor seating) is especially geared toward vegetarians, though it does have a couple of vegan options. I had a very nice vegan English vegan breakfast here. There is also a small takeout annex for coffee and tea next door.

Cons: More limited vegan options

Delicious food but wish they had more vegan options - Edit
The vegan food we had was delicious! I just wish the whole menu were vegan because it’s already on the small side to begin with! They charged $2 to substitute eggs for tofu scramble to make the country breakfast plate vegan which doesn’t even make sense because aren’t eggs more expensive than tofu these days?? We were also disappointed the French toast wasn’t vegan especially since you can get excellent French toast at so many places in the city (PS Kitchen, Urban Vegan, etc.) so it’s definitely possible. The menu’s reliance on eggs is disappointing. I’m sure they would get more vegan customers if the menu were vegan. That being said, the food was really great.

Great breakfast spot - Edit
Being non-native, it's our impression that breakfast in Manhattan is not particularly common; perhaps this may be most true for vegan/vegetarian spots????? The the B.D. was really nice. The rice flour pancakes with a coconut drizzle were just right. The country breakfast with scrambled tofu, toast, grilled tomato, Beyond Meat sausage and potatoes was nice and filling.

Still fantastic - Edit
The. Pancakes. Did not expect the fluffy crispy almost-gingery fantasticness. I almost cried when I first ate their cashew ricotta this summer, and these pancakes met that bar.
Read moreI do wish more of their menu items could be adjusted for vegans — would love to try the French toast casserole.
The vegan bacon was really excellent as well. Wish they could do a basic mimosa, but even their orange juice gets mixed with interesting things.
