Flavorful seasonal ramen - Edit
We tried their yuba ramen which is their seasonal ramen. It was so good! It was sour and a bit spicy. It wasn’t too salty (at least for me). I could also taste the mushrooms in the broth. The soup was interesting; it was thick and a bit viscous.
Read moreThe set meal costs 1,400 yen which I think is reasonable. Aside from ramen, it includes mini soy meat rice bowl and a soy based yoghurt, drizzled with kinako (roasted soy powder) and Japanese brown sugar.
As the other reviewers before me said, the location is a bit difficult to find. It’s on the 3rd floor of JR station (do not go through the exit gate) and it’s beside Jangara ramen shop (not a vegan outlet). But I think T’s Tantan at the Tokyo station is more difficult to find.

Delicious ramen in JR Ueno - Edit
Delicious yuzu ramen! I wanted something lighter and that’s why I chose this one. Great option. We had to wait a short while (5min) but the line moves quickly and once you’re seated you almost instantly get your food. Please note that the restaurant is behind the ticket gate of the JR lines.

Small menu but good - Edit
We had trouble finding the restaurant, unfortunately it is only accessible if you purchased train tickets beforehand.
Read moreThe menu is limited, there were only two sesame ramen and another soup dish available. You can customize your meal by adding rice, gyoza and/ or soy meat.
It was tasty but I preferred the ramen on their restaurant in Shibuya.
Pros: Various options , Friendly staff

Just okay - Edit
Similar to the T’s tan tan in the JR Tokyo station, they have a limited menu and a bit too salty for my taste. It was also a little difficult to find - follow the signs for the ecute shopping area within the JR ticket gate. Once in the ecute shopping area, it’s near track 8 but note there’s multiple track 8 entrances. Continue walking in the circle of the ecute shopping area and you’ll eventually come across it. I liked the char siu soy meat - HIGHLY RECOMMEND! However, their gyoza just tasted like frozen gyoza from the grocery store.

I stayed in Ueno and it seemed natural to go in before or after taking the train. I think I tried everything except the black sesame ramen, no complaints about anything. Wish I could bring this back with me to Seoul.

Haha. I'm always willing to pay to enter JR and brave rush hour madness on Kieyo "street" just to eat at T's Tantan.

A Must-Try Vegan Ramen - Edit
T's Tan Tan is the vegan equivalent to what Ichiran or Ippudo have with the ramen lore with tourists - it is the quintessential spot for a plant-based ramen here in this mega city.
Read more**BE AWARE** This spot is INSIDE the ticket gates. Honestly not a fan that you have to be inside the gates in order to access this spot, which sounds to be the same for their Tokyo Station location as well.
I should have done my due diligence and looked up Yelp reviews before trying to find the restaurant, as it took me 30 minutes until I figured out it was inside the terminal area. I recommend coming here if you are transiting or have a JR Pass to get in and out without paying.
The ramen here was very flavorful and definitely worth the struggle finding the spot. It was packed with flavor without being overly salty and the noodles had a wonderful firm texture. We also tried their Gyoza which we really enjoyed. However, if you order it frozen for takeout, you apparently get a slight discount. Not sure why we couldn't just have that be the deal while dining in because I could have had more.
Definitely a spot to have an affordable vegan ramen in a relaxed spot.
Pros: Cozy atmosphere, Great vegan ramen
Cons: Must enter ticket gates to access

Fantastic Ramen - Edit
I have a very small level of experience with ramen (and had not given it much of a try before going vegan). In saying this, I absolutely loved the meal, and my partner and I ordered the Golden Sesame variation. I had vegan cheese in mine which made the broth creamier, but both were extremely tasty and had a fantastic flavour of peanut and sesame. Would highly recommend!
Read moreIt is a very tricky place to find, which is the only caveat, and you need to actually be in the station (beyond a ticketed gate), so don't attempt to find it outside. Past reviews gave us some indication on where to look for it, but in the end it was extremely worth it.
Pros: Fantastic options and tasty food!
Cons: Tricky to find

Super Tasty Ramen - Edit
I often eat T’s tan-tan cup ramen, which is great, but today I came to the shop in Ueno. The ramen is spectacular! The noodles are perfectly cooked (not too firm, not too soft), and the soup is delicious. It’s a must-go if you are a vegan visiting Tokyo (even if you aren’t vegan), and are craving some authentic Japanese tan-tan ramen.

I love how T's Tantan embraces proudly the term vegan, which doesn't happen yet in many stores in Japan.
