Easily accessible grocery with loads of vegan options - Edit
Like most Whole Foods locations, this place has many vegan options. This branch in particular has an immense amount of vegan offerings ranging from prepackaged and buffet food, skin and hair care and more.

Whole Foods Market - Edit
Very nice, well-stocked Whole Foods Market at Columbus Circle. Located in a nice shopping building...so it's a bonus if you want to knock out some shopping (e.g., clothes, running store, make up, etc.). This Whole Foods Market is also a great place to pick up some snacks / light bites if you'd like to picnic in Central Park, which is just footsteps away.

Huge Whole Foods branch - Edit
This might be my imagination, but it seems to me that this branch of Whole Foods is a bit larger than most other branches of Whole Foods in Manhattan. They have a huge selection of produce. Otherwise, this store is not particularly vegan-oriented--though because it is so big, you will likely find enough vegan items to make you happy..
Read moreNear the exit, they have places where you can sit down and eat something you bought in the store. On a bunch of occasions when I have been with big groups and are in the areas, we have taken advantage of this--that is, everyone buys something in the store, then we all try to grab a seat and table and gobble down our lunch.

Great shop, busy - Edit
Has a great selection of Vegan food. The shop is very busy though, due to its location. However, you never go wrong with some delicious Vegan desserts from this place!

Busy market - Edit
The market is big and very busy at all times, great selection of vegan yogurt and fake meats; the food buffet does not have any labeling for vegetarian (except sometime a couple of dishes that have vegan in the name) and supposedly vegetarian dishes (also not more than a couple of dishes, the rest is plain veggies or plain beans) are side by side with meat dishes. Only if there is nothing else to eat, I would recommend the buffet for vegans. – I also got coffee from a booth inside WF and I didn’t know baristas could be unqualified (difference between filter and americano not known).

Great selection, busy - Edit
One of the employees told me this is the busiest WF in NYC, and I believe it. The traffic flow can be hard to navigate at peak hours, but if you go first thing in the morning, you have it all to yourself. If you go later in the day, they’ve often run out of popular products (for me it’s oat milk!). Head to Westerly down a few blocks on 8th Ave for a more mellow, local experience.

crazy store, crazy location - Edit
intense spot, still have a great supply of stuff, but wow, it is crazy in there; crazy in a cool nyc way though. we go here a lot since it is close to family, but it is def a strange trip.
Read moreits in a high end mall; so space is very costly, which is obvious for nyc anyhow, but you know, even more so. just surreal, don't get an OG vibe from the store, but hey, midtown isn't the most rural spot in the world.
Pros: OG, selection

Good stop for Vegans - Edit
We stocked up on "room snacks" for our trip at this Whole Foods location. It was awesome! Don't miss their homemade vegan chocolate chip cookies, and their rugelach. Oh so good! We got some fresh fruit, crackers, desserts, water, and other food to keep in our hotel room in between meals. It can take a long time to get to a vegan restaurant in New York so it was nice having these snacks handy.

Corporatization of Organic - Edit
I originally wrote the following about the Union Square Whole Foods Market, but my review is germane to all of these stores: If you think that organic means nothing more than growing food without chemicals or bad pesticides, then Whole Foods is fine. But if you believe that "organic" implies a way of being and living, a way of re-structuring and humanizing society, of creating a radical ecological sensibility, then shun this place at all costs. Whole Foods is a megacorporation; why patronize this place when there are so many locally-owned natural foods stores all over the city? Why buy "organic" produce grown on big agribusiness California farms, and then shipped across an entire continent (admittedly a problem for all health food stores in NY) when there are numerous farmers' markets (the Greenmarket program) throughout Manhattan where you can buy locally-produced food from a farmer you know? Why patronize a store that proudly displays the carcasses of dead animals, offered for sale for human consumption? When it comes to corporate "organic", the old adage "Think Globally, Act Locally" is quite appropriate.

that farmers market we both enjoy also has dead animals...
